Kodály Vic Courses

The Victorian Model

Kodály Victoria conducts annual Australian Kodály Certificate (AKC) courses. The Victorian AKC Model consists of a series of lectures spaced across the year to allow for practice and reflection between sessions.

Enrolment is offered in two separate subject blocks, Part A and Part B, and can be studied concurrently or at separate times. Both parts must be completed in order to obtain each certificate level.

Part A subjects:

  • Pedagogy
  • Practicum
  • Materials

Part B subjects:

  • Musicianship
  • Conducting
  • Ensemble

Students wishing to attain the full Australian Kodály Certificate must complete 3 levels (both Part A & Part B) in each subject within one stream: Primary, Secondary or Early Childhood. The AKC is normally completed over three or more years.

Australian Kodály Certificate

The Australian Kodály Certificate (AKC) is the only Australian fully accredited and nationally recognised program of teacher training in the Kodály concept. This course provides pre-service, current classroom and studio music teachers with the skills and knowledge to deliver a sequential, cumulative, developmental and aural-based music curriculum.

Each course offers a unique approach to professional development, providing participants with the opportunity to enhance skills and work actively with teaching concepts. A resource collection of age-appropriate cultural materials – songs and games – will be developed as part of the process.

More information about the Australian Kodály Certificate curriculum can be found at the Kodály Australia website.
